Introduction Crossing the Atlantic is complicated by the lack of radar coverage for many hours. The North Atlantic Track system enables more than 4,000 aircraft to make the crossing each day as safely and efficiently as possible, avoiding other aircraft while making optimum use of wind speeds. In this video Captain Henk de Vries and FO Knut Knudsen take a heavy 777-200 into a weather limited JFK. Along the way they demonstrate the Oceanic clearance request process on the 777, pick up an emergency locator signal and consider a weather diversion to Washington Dulles before beating heavy crosswinds, rain and wind shear to land safely at KFJK.
